NCWV PRESS RELEASE
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTILLING RESPECT FOR WOMEN STARTS FROM THE GROUND UP!
There are thousands of books, brochures and millions of
words written about women, but their miseries continue unabated in many parts
of the world including close to home in our country and in all States of
Australia.
Why is this so? Because all females are especially
vulnerable, - whether as children or as adults, whether disabled or not and obviously
education has not succeeded in fostering respect for womanhood and eradicating
the scourge of violence against women and children. Human trafficking continues
unabated, domestic violence is still a problem and generally rape and street
violence continues to shock us all.
The National Council of Women of Victoria, the umbrella NGO
of Victorian women’s organizations since 1902, is recognizing that in 2013 there
is a local and worldwide need to attack this problem from the ‘ground up’, i.e.
at the grass-roots level.
NCWV realized that
nowhere is there a simple expose defining to all the meaning of
RESPECT
FOR WOMEN.
Nowhere is there a simple manifesto defining in simple terms
the legal guidelines for
THE HUMAN RIGHTS
of the FEMALE CHILD, the GIRL or of the WOMAN AT ANY AGE.
NCWV challenges the
community from the Government down to all sectors to join with us in
eradicating violence and the scourge of misogynist attitudes towards females.
The attached brochure
produced by NCWV in January 2013 could be the starting point in awareness
raising for all: in the home, in schools, in the workplace; for new arrivals to
this country and in the indigenous communities; in religious institutions, in
police stations, the army, the navy and the air force. In short, it should be
disseminated to all sectors of society.
Our simple pamphlet is but the first step. NCWV does not
have the resources for translations into community languages or for mass
distribution. Therefore we depend on
everyone else’s help to do so. Posters could be printed in newspapers and
framed on walls in public places. With support, educational seminars and
workshops at all levels can be instituted on each of the aspects listed in it
and more.
PLEASE SUPPORT THE
DISTRIBUTION AND DISSEMINATION OF OUR BROCHURE on the web or in print. The
attached pdf can be reproduced as long as the National Council of Women of Victoria is always credited with its
production.
Women have rights and responsibilities.
All women are deserving of respect.
